 Gujarat to charge tourists for Narmada dam view

Ahmedabad, July 18 (IANS) The Gujarat government has decided to charge tourists for a view of a dam under construction over the Narmada river.
From Wednesday, people flocking to the controversial 110 m dam and the reservoir near Kevadia village will be charged Rs.5 each. Parking fees at the dam site, part of the ambitious, multipurpose Narmada project, will range from Rs.10 to Rs.100. The project, the focus of an intense debate over the environmental and human costs involved, is running behind schedule with cases of resettlement and rehabilitation of the affected population yet to be settled. The dam site has attracted a large number of tourists in recent weeks following the onset of monsoons.

Land Submergence & Project Affected Families

The construction of dam will lead to the submergence of 37,533 hectares of lands of the 3 states of M.P, Mah, Guj.A total of 4144 families are likely to be affected by the project. And most of the PAFs belong to the tribal communities.
